Easy to crochet small doily

How to crochet a simple doily - step by step tutorial

Once I started crocheting doilies, I wanted to make my own pattern. So here it is - very easy and very nice :)

I made three different doilies but the pattern is very similar, so you can choose which one you like more ;) The step by step tutorial is for the yellow doily. After making this doily, I will explain crocheting the red and blue doilies.

What you need:

  • yarn
  • hook
  • scissors

Abbreviations:

mr - magic ring
sc - single crochet
hdc - half double crochet
dc - double crochet
slst - slip stitch
ch - chain
st - stitch

I made also charts for this pattern (at the beginning of steps). Here is the legend:

PATTERN

Yellow doily

Start with mr

1. Crochet 3 ch (this is the first dc of the round), then crochet 11 dc into the mr, slst to the third ch you made at the beginning, close the mr

12 dc in mr (first dc is actually made from 3 ch)

mr

3 ch

3 ch plus 11 dc

slst to the third ch

first round done :)

2. 4 ch (1 ch = sc, 3 ch), sc in the second next st (skip one st), *3 ch, sc in the second next st* repeat between **, slst to the first ch you made at the beginning

the centre of flower and foundation for petals

4 ch

here you should crochet 1 sc

4 ch plus 1 sc in the second next st

slst to the first ch from the beginning

second round done :)

3. Crochet 1 ch (= 1 sc), slst to the loop made from 3 ch, in this loop crochet 3 ch (= 1 dc) and 4 dc, in the next st (the st of sc from the previous round) crochet sc, repeat till the end of the round, slst to the st before slst you made in the loop in this round, so in the 1 ch you made at the beginning

flower with six petals

1 ch plus slst to the very first loop

3 ch

3 ch plus 4 dc in one loop

here you should crochet 1 sc

first petal done

where the hook shows, you should slst (in the 1 ch you made at the beginning)

flower done :)

4. Crochet 3 ch (= 1 dc), in the same st crochet 1 more dc (like increase), then crochet 3 ch, crochet 1 sc in the second dc you made in the first loop, then 3 ch, dc in the sc from the previous round, one more dc in the same st, 3 ch, 1 sc in the st of sc from the previous round, 3ch, continue crocheting till the end of the round, slst to the third ch you made at the beginning

pattern to follow - 2 dc, 3 ch, 1 sc

here you should crochet the first dc (after 3 ch)

3 ch (= 1 dc), 1 dc, 3 ch

1 sc in the second dc from the previous round

2 dc in the sc between the petals

slst to the third ch from the beginning

fourth round done :)

5. Now you should continue increasing the number of dc and sc, each round by one. Crochet 3 ch (= 1 dc), dc, one more dc in the next ch, chrochet 3 ch, sc in the sc, one more sc in the next ch, 3 ch, dc in the dc (twice), dc in the next ch, 3 ch, sc in the sc, one more sc in the next ch, continue till the end, slst to the third ch you made at the beginning

pattern to follow - 3 dc, 3 ch, 2 sc

dc in the next ch made after 2 dc from the previous round

increasing the number of dc

3 dc

3 dc, 3 ch, sc plus one more sc in the next st

fifth round done :)

6. Continue increasing dc and sc. Now it should be 4 dc and 3 sc, in between there should be 4 ch. Slst to the third ch.

pattern to follow - 4 dc, 4 ch, 3 sc
detail

4 dc and 4 ch

4 dc, 4 ch, 3 sc, 4 ch

sixth round done :)

7. This is the last round of increasing. There should be 5 dc and 4 sc, in between 4 ch.

pattern to follow (detail) - 5 dc, 4 ch, 4 sc

seventh round done :)

8. Now you should crochet sc around doily except for the dc part (made from 5 dc), there you should crochet sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc. Start the round with 1 ch. Finish the round with slst to the first ch. Cut the yarn. Hide the tail. Find a good place for your new doily :)

pattern to follow for dc part of doily (detail) - sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc

top of the dc part (sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc)

all done :)

Red doily

Follow the same steps as for the yellow doily. But instead of increasing sc, do not increase, but always crochet 1 sc in the previous sc.

Blue doily

Follow the same steps as for the yellow doily. But this time, do not start with 2 dc in between petals. Start with 1 dc, continually increase. At the end the number of sc at the top of each petal and the number of dc in between petals should be the same = 4.

Happy crocheting :)
